Renny Harlin returns to what he does best - making ok action flicks involving water and occasionally sharks.
This is a fairly standard and old school disaster outing. A plane piloted by Aaron Eckhart and Ben Kingsley (who one must assume was chloroformed and just woke up on set with a script and a photo of his captive family) crash lands in the Pacific and, uh-oh, there are sharks.
That's basically it. And you know what? It is fine. Genuinely ok and not unwatchable.
I mean, you have seen every frame elsewhere and the characters are largely central casting templates e.g. the argumentative jock, the boorish drunken blowhard, etc. but Harlin keeps things moving until the denouement.
